Roasting -:
Roasting is the process in which the ore is heated below its melting point in presence of air to oxidise the impurities. eg: carbon, sulphur etc removed as their gaseous oxides.
2 ZnS +3O2 --------> 2 ZnO + 2SO2 .
Calcination -:
It is the process of converting an ores to oxide by strongly heating it in limited air . For example carbonate ores are converted into the oxide by heating in the absence of air.
ZnCO3 -----> ZnO + CO2
