describes a consequence of the reservation system during the 1870s?
Answers
Answer: here's two!
Explanation:
1) the creation of reservations was detrimental to the native american's way of life. they were nomadic, and the creation of these restricted them only to certain areas and so they couldn't follow the buffalo to eat/use resources etc. the white settlers wanted to 'civilise' the natives, and so ripped away everything important from their culture. think education, forcing them to farm, etc.
2) these reservations also made the native americans dependant on the american government, as the government loaned them money to get food/rations (which could be withdrawn at any time). as they couldn't leave the reservations, they couldn't increase their wealth. you'll have to double check, this may be the fort laramie treaty (can't remember which one), and so you can use the effects of that to further explain.
sorry for the technical glitch hahaha hope this helped!
