Answer:
The events that led the narrator and his guest having lunch together in the story ‘The Luncheon’ written by Somerset Maugham happened when the narrator was a young aspiring writer when he was struggling for his life with the little money he had earned then.
One day, he received a complimentary letter from his avid reader, a woman, asking him to meet him personally over lunch to talk about his writing.
The narrator was flattered and quite impressed with the compliments that the woman gave and agreed for the lunch at the Foyot’s in Paris which was quite an expensive restaurant. Despite the fact, the narrator doubted of having enough money to pay the bills, he had lunch together with her.
