Global warming is a phenomenon brought about by the accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Examples of greenhouse gases include carbon dioxide, methane, etc. Carbon dioxide is produced by the combustion of carbon-containing fuels in car engines and coal-powered power plants, among others. Methane is produced during the decomposition of biological matter.

Greenhouse gases prevent heat which radiates off the earth's surface from leaving the earth's atmosphere, thus warming it up. It can cause the polar ice caps to melt and the sea level to rise, thus flooding low-lying coastal areas. The soil in some areas may also get too dried up to support vegetation and crops and people in these countries go hungry. It also results in unpredictable weather and cause and increase in the occurrence of natural disasters such as tsunamis. It has been documented that the temperature of the Earth has already increased by several degrees Celsius because of global warming, and this is likely to increase at a much faster rate in the next 100 years.

hope it helps you..
