Answer:

The play Abhijanana Shakuntala is originally written in Sanskrit by eminent laureate Kalidasa.

The story tells about a young girl, Shakuntala, who is the daughter of a sage named Vishwamitra and a dancer Menaka.

Shakuntala is raised in a hermitage by the hermit Kanva after she was disowned by her parents citing some reasons.

Once King Duhsanata was hunting near the hermitage where Shakuntala lives. He goes there unadorned as a common man and soon he falls in love with Shakuntala.

They both get married in the heritage itself and Shakuntala begets a child in her.

One day, the King had to leave for his kingdom. In order to keep a remembrance and token of love, he pulls out his signet ring and thus offering it to Shakuntala.

Then, a learned sage with an extereme temper who goes by the name of Durvasa Rishi, once had come to the heritage and was calling out to Shakuntala.

However, being absent-minded, Shakuntala did not hear him as she was thinking about the King.

Irritated by her lack of response, Durvasa Rishi gets agitated and curses her
