Chandigarh is the 1st planned city in India, with world-renowned architecture, and a quality of life, which is unmatched. Chandigarh was projected under Late Prime Minister, Jawahar Lal Nehru’s administration and the famous French architect Le Corbusier executed the project. It is a union territory and is the capital of the states, Punjab and Haryana. So as a territory, it does not belong to either state and is administrated by the central government. Previously it was the capital of Punjab, but after the formation of Haryana on 1st November 1966 it becomes a union territory.

In 1966, the Hindi-speaking area and Punjabi speaking area was split to create a new state of Haryana. But Chandigarh continued to be the capital of both Punjab and Haryana. The unique thing about the city is the expanse of glorious blue sky with the Shivalik Hills in the backdrop. Chandigarh is a unique blend of modernization and nature preservation residing together. Thus this beautiful serene city is rightly called “The City Beautiful “.

Chandigarh might appear weirdly familiar to westerners and idiosyncratic to the rest of India.
