                                              Lost In A Storm

Unexpected incidents often take us by surprises. They not only are extremely trying, but adventurous also. One of such days I had to deal with quite recently!

I remember that day quite vividly. I was driving home after visiting my friend who lives in the suburbs of the city. It was evening time. The sun had just set. Suddenly, a gale began to buffet my car. I had to slow down it. Soon the sky was overcast with black clouds that were floating so awfully lower, just a few meters above my car. And soon the thundering and lightning scared my wits out of me. It began to rain very heavily. The intensity of the gale along with the downpour ripped many electric poles. Trees were uprooted and strewn on the road. I had to stop. Towards the left, I descried a by-road. I turned left and slowly I began to inch my way towards I knew not where. After 20 minutes, driving in the storm, I reached an unknown place. I took my cell-phone out to call my wife. There was no range of the network. I did not know where I was in that dark, stormy night!

There was no soul out whom I could ask for directions! Depending on my gut feeling, I kept driving on cautiously. After an hour’s more driving, I reached a township. The storm had subsided a little bit. People had begun coming out of their homes. I stopped my car and enquired from a passerby, ‘ Sir, what place is this?’

The man replied, ‘Well, it is Khanna! Where do you want to go?’

‘Goodness gracious!’, exclaimed I, ‘I am heading for Ludhiana!’

‘Well, that is forty kilometers from here!’, said he, ‘Take that road; and turn right on the first crossing, you will reach your destination within an hour!’

I thanked the stranger, and followed his directions.
