I shake the tiny paper tube of sugar over and over. I won 't use it. I always drink my coffee black and bitter. My eyes dart over the needles of the clock on the wall. It 's about forty seconds later than the last time I checked. I am purposely early but you are not late. Yet. You still have five minutes. I fidget at a table halfway down the small room crowded with people and lively conversations. I chose the chair facing the front door so I can spot you before you enter. I distract my anxious mind and stare at the bay windows framing the entrance. Despite our connection and our communications over the last few weeks we are strangers to each other. I am nervous around strangers.

"Hello," I mutter as I scramble to stand up knee knocking against the table.

The coffee splashes on the unvarnished surface. It colours the pale wood a dark brown and my cheeks a bright red. My clumsiness curls your lips and I see the origin of my crooked smile.

"Hello."

Your voice takes me by surprise. It sounds different than what I expected. A little deeper, huskier perhaps. But then, I don’t really know what I had imagined. Just not that sound. We stand awkwardly unsure how to proceed. You extend your hand taking the initiative. The older and wiser version of the two of us. I slide mine inside yours. My clammy palm against the dryness of yours.

"You are even more beautiful in person than in your picture."

I drop my head so the rusty coloured curtain of my curls hides the now bright crimson of my burning cheeks. I am nervous around compliments too.

The Ambience of restaurant was nice it was filled with the smell of coffee all over. I literally hate waiting , I thought when my friend will come I will complain a lot to her for being late and make her promise that she will not do this next time.
