There are 4 kinds of figure of speech:

1. simile - similar thing comparison

(examples: quite like mouse,as tall as mountain)

2. Metaphor - two things are exactly similar

(Example: Love is a battle field)

3. Hyperbole - exaggerated

example: as thin as a toothpick

4. oxymoron - contradictory ideas

There are another 4 kinds:

they are Personification, Allusion, onomatopoeia, idiom.

Personification - Objects are compared with living beings

(The car died in the middle of the road)

Allusion - this mainly has its impact that Bibilical Allusion where the quick reference of place, things etc were taken from literary.

Onomatopoeia - words / phrases that indicate sound

example: the leaves were rustling, the door was squeaking..

idiom - words that don't give literal direct meaning.
