To Survive in Desert, the terrestrial plants need to decrease the Transpiration level to avoid much of water loss. So these plants have evolved to have smaller leaves so that there are fewer Stomata. On the other hand some plants have also evolved to convert their leaves into Thorns, such as Cactus.
