Given:

Fund A = 7% profit

Fund B = 4% profit

Amount in Fund A is 3 times as much as Fund B

total profit of the two funds is Rs 2000

To Find:

Amount invested in Fund B

Define x:

Let the amount invested in Fund B = x

Amount invested in Fund A = 3x

Find the amount of profit made from Fund A in term of x:

\text{Profit } = P( 1 + \dfrac{r}{100} )^n - P

\text{Profit } = 3x( 1 + \dfrac{7}{100} )^1 - 3x

\text{Profit } = 3x( 1.07) - 3x

\text{Profit } = 3.21x - 3x

\text{Profit } = 0.21x

Find the amount of profit made from Fund B in term of x:

\text{Profit } = P( 1 + \dfrac{r}{100} )^n - P

\text{Profit } = x( 1 + \dfrac{4}{100} )^1 - x

\text{Profit } = x( 1.04) - x

\text{Profit } = 1.04x - x

\text{Profit } = 0.04x

Given that the total profit is Rs 2000

0.21x + 0.04x = \text{ Rs }2000

0.25x  = \text{ Rs }2000

x = \text{Rs }8000

Find the amount invested in Fund B:

\text{Fund B } = x

\text{Fund B } = \text{Rs }8000

Answer: Rs 8000 was invested in fund B.
