Desi nama, or Indian system of book-keeping. It is the old traditional method which was used many many years ago to record financial transactions. It is written in a particular script called mahajani. It was taught in schools as a subect. The accountants known as munshi used to maintain the record (bahi khaata)
Now also many years old shops in northern India use this method. Mahajani has several codes for cash, debit, credit etc which made it difficult to udnerstand by common people so it was secure. Nowadays the system is rarely followed and students are depended upon technology and several accounting softwares has taken the market. Only few schools still teach this system but soon it will be extinct,
