Teaching Tenses to children is not an easy task. Teaching them only grammar rules will make the concept boring. So you need to be quite innovative. You can use the following steps:

1.Tell them what ‘Simple Past Tense’ is.

2. Tell the students its verb form in statements, interrogatives, and negatives.

3. Ask them to remember what they did the previous day.

4.Then write the sentences on the board or the smart-board.

5. Then underline all the verb forms in the sentences.

6. Now, you tell the students a few of the things you did using the Simple Past Tense.

7. Finally ask the students to tell what they did the previous day using the Simple Past Tense. Correct them where they make mistakes.

8. Finally give them blanks to fill using the Simple Past Tense.
