There is a formula which helps you in solving Narration -

SON formula
Now what is SON formula?

S- subject
O- object
N- no change

Means- 1st person change according to SUBJECT.

2 nd person change according to OBJECT.

3 rd person no change.
Simple Past changes in Past Perfect.

For ex - He said to me, " I saw you yesterday."

I.D.S. - He told me that he had seen me the previous day.
