design a zener regulator to give 10V dc output with maximum load current of 100mA. consider that input unregulated dc supply is 15V and Iz(min) =1mA. write down the voltage and power ratings of the zener and siries resistor Rs.

See the diagram.

10 V = 15 V - R I    =>  5 / I   Ohms

At full load, the current through R could be : I = 100 m A + 1 m A

So R = 5, 000 / 101 = 49.5 Ω

If the load resistance is more, then load current will be less, and the excess current will flow through the zener and zener maintains the 10V in the reverse.  So we take a zener with 10 V breakdown voltage in the reverse bias.
