ACTIVITY TO SHOW INTER-RELATION BETWEEN FORCE, AREA AND PRESSURE !
Material required:
- Balloon
- Pumper
- Pins
- Blunt objects
Experiment:
- Use the pumper and inflate two balloons.
- Put force on the first balloon using the pin. And use the blunt object to put force on the second balloon.
Observation:
- The pin punctures the balloon, but the blunt object does not.
Inference:
- Since the pin had a much smaller area of contact, the pressure exerted on the balloon was much higher , which caused the balloon to get punctured and deflated.
- But the blunt object had a higher area, leading to lesser pressure and the balloon did not get punctured.
