An activity using a concave mirror to prove that it is converging in nature.

1. Take the concave mirror and place its reflecting surface direct towards the Sun.

2. Observe the sunlight reflected by the mirror on the sheet and place it near the sheet.

3. Move that paper sheet back and forth gradually until you find

a bright, sharp dot of sunlight on the paper.

4. Place the mirror and the paper sheet in the same position at least for five

minutes.

5. At first, the paper starts burning with a smoky smell, and then it

may catch fire even after a moment.

6. Hence, the diverse sunlight from the Sun in the atmosphere is converged at a point by the mirror. That point is said to be the focus of the concave mirror.

The above activity shows that concave mirrors are convergent in nature.
