Answer:

Aim – To see how temperature effects the speed of a coin sinking in water.

Materials Required –

• Coin

• 3 glasses

• Water

• Microwave

Procedure- Step 1: Put the same amount of water in each glass.

Step 2: Heat the three glasses to 30 degrees, 40 degrees and 50 degrees (using microwave)

Step 3: Label the glass with water heated to 30 degrees as glass ‘A’, the glass with water heated to 40 degree as glass ‘B’ and the glass with water heated up to 50 degrees as glass ‘C’

Step 4: Drop the coin into the glasses and record the time it took to sink

Glass Number    Time taken for coin to sink

Glass A                    4 seconds

Glass B                    3 seconds

Glass C                    1 seconds

Result: The coin took the shortest time to sink in glass C

Explanation: The coin took the shortest time to sink in glass C as glass C had the hottest temperature. If the temperature of the water is high, then its density decreases. Due to this, the coin sinks the fastest in glass C
