Some of the reasons we face a shortage of water despite being a blue planet because:

1. Less percentage of water fit for use: On earth, though the quantity of water available is 2/3rd, out of that only 1% of water is fit for use. Seawater and ocean water cannot be directly consumed for various purposes in daily use.
2. Overuse of water: The available water is used by people in quantities creating wastage of water. In some areas where water is adequately available people overuse it in huge quantities and wastewater.
3. Water pollution: This is also the main reason we face water shortage. Water is polluted by people and industries by throwing unnecessary, toxic and plastic items. It causes pollution and makes water unfit for living organisms.

• Hence, we face a water shortage as this resource is not managed efficiently for use.
