Answer:
The little match girl is a story about a young girl selling matches in order to earn money. Her job was to sell all the matches otherwise her cruel father would beat her up. She was freezing because it was poorly dressed and barefoot, and was very very hungry.
In order to lessen the cold she would light up matches in hopes of getting through the cold winter night. Whenever she would light up a match she saw beautiful scenes. First she saw a table with delicious food and a decorated Christmas tree. Secondly she saw her dead grandmother taking her to a place where she would always be fed and kept warm. This shows that till the end the girl had hopes of having a nice home full of warmth and being fed and loved. Hence, in the end she died due to the harsh weather but still she had a smile on her face even in death.
