Despite less calorie requirements urban areas have a higher poverty line. This is because living in urban areas requires a lot of money. All the basic necessities are much more expensive than in rural areas.

Urban areas have high poverty line because all individuals aspire for the places which are rich in terms of ease and facilities and hence these urban places become a pull factor of influencing most of the population. As a result, it creates overpopulation and causes poverty due to lack of earning opportunities because of higher competitions. Most importantly, in urban areas, there is a predicament of professional unemployment.
