the process by which the parent cells divides into two or more daughter cells is called cell division.

the cells from which the new cells are divided are called parent cells and the new cells divided are called daughter cells.

the two types of cell divisions mitosis and meiosis-

in Mitosis the the chromosome number of the parent cell is same in the daughter cell, whereas

in meiosis the chromosome number gets halved in the daughter cell.

hope this helped you!!
