Jammu and Kashmir, located at the northern most part of our country India has an extensive forest cover of 20230 square kilometres, which accounts for 19.95% of the total geographic area within India. Jammu region has 45.89% of the forests and Kashmir has 50.97% of the forests and Ladakh has 0.06% of forest cover.

1. The recorded forest area of the state is 20,230 km' which is 9.1% of the geographical area. Reserved Forests constitute 87.21%, Protected Forests 12.61% and Unclassed Forests 0.18%. Jammu and Kashmir has 4 National Parks, 15 Wildlife Sanctuaries and 34 Conservation Reserves, covering an area of 11,774.50 km².
