x +  \frac{1}{x}  = 2 \cos( \alpha )  \\ ( {x +  \frac{1}{x} )}^{2}  =  {(2 \cos\alpha })^{2}  \\  {x}^{2}  +  { \frac{1}{ {x}^{2} } }^{2}  + 2 = 4 \cos( \alpha ) \\  {x}^{2}  +  \frac{1}{ {x}^{2} }  = 4 \cos( \alpha )  - 2
