 \large \dag Question :-

Explain Freundlich adsorption isotherm briefly with mathematical calculations.

 \large \dag Answer :-

\rm  \purple \maltese \:  \:  \: \red{ \underline{ \underline{Freundlich \:  Adsorption \:  Isotherm }}}

According to Freundlich adsorption isotherm the extent of adsorption is directly proportional to fractional power of pressure.

In mathematical form :-

\bf \red\bigstar \: \: \orange{ \pmb{ \underbrace{ \underline{   \blue{  \frac{x}{m}  \propto  p {}^{  \ 1/n} \:  \:  \:  }}}}}

:\longmapsto \rm  \frac{ x }{m}  = kp {}^{1/n} \:  ;  \small0 < n < 1\:  \:  -  -  - (1) \\

Taking log on both sides of (1) :

:\longmapsto \rm log \frac{x}{m}  = log(  kp {}^{1/n} )\\

:\longmapsto \rm log \frac{x}{m}  = log(k) +  log( p {}^{1/n} )  \\

:\longmapsto \rm log \frac{x}{m}  = log(k) + \frac{1}{n}   log( p )  -  -  - (2) \\

Also graph of both equations are given in attachment.

Answer:

The variation in the amount of gas adsorbed per unit mass by the adsorbent with pressure at constant temperature is given by freundlich adsorption isotherm , the amount of gas adsorbed by it at a pressure decreases with an increase in temperature as confirmed by plots of these isotherms at different temperatures , now its validity can be proved by plotting log of gas adsorbed per unit mass of adsorbent at a temperature against log of pressure , if it comes out to be a straight line then the isotherm is true as log of any exponential function against the log of its variable is a straight line
