The solar system is made up of the sun and everything that orbits around it, including planets, moons, asteroids, comets and meteoroids.  Scientists estimate that the edge of the solar system is about 9 billion miles (15 billion kilometers) from the sun.

The Solar System. Our solar system consists of an average star we call the Sun, the planets Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. It includes: the satellites of the planets; numerous comets, asteroids, and meteoroids; and the interplanetary medium.

If the proposed Resolution is passed, the 12 planet in our Solar System will be Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Ceres, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, Charon and 2003 UB313

Our solar system is planetary system that orbits a star and all of the objects that travel around it—eight planets, dozens of moons and millions of asteroids, comets and meteoroids. Most stars host their own planets, so there are likely tens of billions of other solar systems in the Milky Way galaxy alone.
