1st term = 5

a = 5

4th term = -40

a + 3d = -40

now put the value of a ....

5 + 3d = -40

d = -(35/3 )

ratio of 1st term and 4th term

a + a+ 3d / 2.

2a + 3d/2

[2(5) + 3(-35/3) ] / 2

10 -35 / 2

-25/2

the common ratio r of a geometric sequence with first term 5 and fourth term -40. is
