Technically, the flow of charges be it either positive or negative is current. But when we talk about circuits and Electronics ,we tend to call it as flow of electrons which is just an oversimplification.

By convention ,the flow of current is assumed to be from positive to negative direction. The flow of electrons is from negative to positive.

Reason: The scientists after the discovery of electricity thought that the positive ions were responsible for current flow and hence the conventional direction was followed since the electrons were not discovered at that time. After the discovery of electrons by J.J.Thompson ,electrons were held responsible for the current flow. But they maintained using the same convention.

It could be said that the direction of flow of electrons is opposite to the direction of flow of current.
