Determine the median of

24 ,23 ,a ,a-1, 12, 16

Here a is the mean of 10,20,30,40,50

then.

Mean=Sum of observations/

Numberof observations

then. 10+20+30+40+50/5

=30

here we got a=30 then a-1=29

24,23,a,a-1,12,16

Now arrange these in ascending order then we get

12,16,23,24,29,30

here n=6

where n is even

then the median is (n/2,n/2+1)

then 6/2 and 6/2+1

then 3and 4 are terms

then the median is mean of those terms

23+24/2

=23.5
