Determine the nature of roots of 2x² + x - 1= 0.

Good question,

Here is your answer!

Here a = 2,

b= 1

& c = - 1.

D (discriminant) = b² - 4ac

= 1 - 4*2*-1

= 1 + 8

= 9.

Since D>0,

Hence roots are real & distinct.

= 2x² + 2x - x - 1

= 2x(x+1) - 1(x +1) = 0

=) (2x-1)(x+1) = 0

Hence roots are 1 & 1/2.
