Given: 400g of TiO₂

To find: number of moles of chlorine molecule

Solution: TiO₂ + 2Cl₂ → TiCl₄ + O₂

According to the law of conservation of mass,

1 mole of TiO₂ requires 2 moles of chlorine molecule to form 1 mole of TiCl₄ and 1 mole of oxygen molecules.

The Molecular mass of TiO₂ = 80

Number of moles in 400gm of TiO₂ = 400/80 = 5 mole

Therefore, 10 moles of Cl₂ react with 400gm of TiO₂.
