 {x}^{2}  - x - 2 = 0 \\  {b}^{2}  - 4ac = 0 \\   {1}^{2}  - 4 \times  - 2 \times 1 \\ 1  + 8 = 9 \\

since the discriminant is greater than zero it has real roots.

=>x²-x-2=0

Here, a=1,b=-1, c=-2

Now,

b²-4ac=√D

(-1)²-4(1)(-2)=√D

1+8=√D

√D=9

D=+9

Hence, the equation will have real and distinct roots.
