Determine whether the given values are solutions of the given equation or not
x+1/x=13/6, x=5/6 , x=4/3

GIVEN :-

  • x + 1/x = 13/6 , x = 5/6 , x = 4/3

TO PROVE :-

  • The given values are solution of the given equation or not.

SOLUTION :-

Case 1 :-

⇒ x + 1/x = 13/6

⇒ 5/6 + 1 ÷ 5/6 = 13/6

⇒ 5/6 + 6/5 = 13/6

⇒ (25 + 36)/30 = 13/6

⇒ 61/30 ≠ 13/6

L.H.S R.H.S

HENCE x = 5/6 is not a solution for the given equation.

case 2 :-

⇒ x + 1/x = 13/6

⇒ 4/3 + 1 ÷ 4/3 = 13/6

⇒ 4/3 + 3/4 = 13/6

⇒ (16 + 9)/12 = 13/6

⇒ 25/12 ≠ 13/6

L.H.S R.H.S

Hence x = 4/3 is not a solution for the given equation.
