To find : which of the following are divisible by ' 3 '. (i) 4689 (ii) 726352

Solution :

  • According to divisibility test of 3  a number is divisible by 3 if sum of its digit is divisible by 3 .
  • Therefore , we first add digits of number and then check if the sum is divisible by 3 or not .

    (i) 4689

       = 4 + 6 + 8+ 9 \\= 27 \\

  • Since , 27 is divisible by 3  we can say that number 4689  is divisible by 3 .

    (ii) 726352

       = 7 + 2 +6+3+5+2 \\= 25

  • Since , 25 is not divisible by 3  we can say that number 726352 is not  divisible by 3 .

Hence , from above observations we conclude that only (i) 4689 is divisible by 3.
