Answer:-

Golakh Nath did not benefit from the ring in the banana, while Mani Ram did. Next, Parvati tried to give him a gold axe, but even that passed Golak Nath by. Parvati, refusing to give up, tries yet another time...

Early the next morning, Shiva and Parvati arrived in Magadhpur, at the old peepal tree in the outskirts of town. The villagers worshipped this tree as it was considered holy, a saint having meditated here. People performed poojas under the tree, offering flowers and water.

Mani Ram and Golak Nath, visited the tree every morning.

“This time, there will be no chance of a mistake,” said Parvati. She carried two large bags filled with gold coins.

“Do you think this plan will work?” Shiva asked.

“Of course. Even the simple Golak Nath won’t be able to resist the lure of gold coins,” she shook the bags. The gold coins jingled.

Mani Ram strode into view, carrying a pot of water and a bunch of flowers. He watered the tree, and placed flowers at its base. He then began to say his prayers.

A tempting treat

Parvati knew that Mani Ram would circle the tree thrice. So, she placed the bag in such a way that he would see it.

After his prayers, Mani Ram knelt beside the tree and paid obeisance and then began circling it. He saw the bag. “Who left this here?” he frowned.

He opened the bag. It was filled with gold coins. He looked around. There was no one around. Scooping handfuls of mud, he shoved it into the bag, until the gold coins were buried the mud.

Lifting the heavy bag in his hands, he completed his prayers, all the while watching his bag of coins. When he left, he held the bag close to his chest.

“Why did he do that?” Parvati frowned.

“You will see,” said Shiva mischievously.

“Your Golak Nath is here,” he said, as Golak Nath shuffled towards the tree, carrying a drooping flower.

Once again Parvati placed the bag of coins behind the tree. After his prayers, Golak Nath circled the tree.

“What is this?” he asked, when he saw the bag.

Squatting, he opened the bag. He was shocked to see the gold coins. Quickly gathering the bag close to his chest, he completed his prayers. He began walking down the path to his house, excited to tell his wife the good news.

“At last,” Parvati sighed. “Golak Nath has learnt his lesson.”

“It’s not yet over,” said Shiva. “Let’s walk up the path.”

“Why?” asked Parvati. “He has finally accepted the blessing I wanted to give him.”

“You will see why.”

They saw a band of dacoits had surrounded Mani Ram who was ahead of Golak Nath.

“What’s in your bag?” a dacoit shouted.

“Mud,” said Mani Ram shivering.

“Open the bag,” another dacoit ordered.

Mani Ram opened the bag. A dacoit put his hand into the bag and scooped out a handful of mud. The angry dacoit pushed Mani Ram.

“Get lost,” he said. The scared Mani Ram ran down the path, clutching his bag.

“Oh no,” groaned Goddess Parvati, shaking her head sadly.
