The proudest moment of my life
It was a cold December day. Very few students had turned up. It was the last day before the Christmas vacation.
I was packing my bag. The bell had rung and I was all set to go home. The cold was biting and a storm was warning its approach.
Suddenly I heard a low moaning sound. It was as if someone was in pain.
I told my friends to follow me . But alas! None wanted to delay as it had already started to rain and winter rains are dreadful.
I was in a dilemma. Should I stay, that would mean walking all the way as the school bus would leave by then or go with my friends.
I decided to opt for the former. I remembered Swami Vivekananda's saying, ' They only live who live for others '.
I traced the sound and moved towards its direction.
It began to grow louder. Trailing it I found a little girl in a junior class room groaning in pain.
I went up to her and splashed some water on her face . Thank God I hadn't finished all the water in the water bottle.
I struggled to pick her up. I carried her downstairs to the Principal's office.
The Principal was getting ready to leave. Seeing me she stopped. Both of us took the girl in her car and rushed to the hospital.
The doctor immediately admitted the girl and took her to the operation theatre. He said her appendix had ruptured and we had saved her life .
That night I stayed at the hospital as the storm had intensified and the girl's parents couldn't come.
In the morning I went back home totally exhausted.
I soon forgot about the incident.
School opened. At the assembly and before all the students and teachers my principal patting my back, praised me for my achievement proudest moment of my life.
