Abstract
Religious mass gatherings call for integrated planning for accessibility and facilities for smooth movement of the pilgrims. The old and small religious towns have informal road networks which lead to poor connectivity to the event places. However, the sacredness calls for gathering of millions of pilgrims within a limited area. The annual event of Ratha Yatra, observed in the town of Puri is one such religious festival which is till date manually controlled with intense support organized by the District Authority. The crowd moves with the moving chariots for around a period of four hours and along a stretch of around three kilometres. The three chariots are dragged along the entire stretch one at a time
