kathak is one the traditional dance forms of India. the word kathak is derived from the Vedic Sanskrit word Katha meaning "story", .
it means through the dance it tells us a story.
the word kathaka is Sanskrit for story teller.
the Kathak dance tradition evolved – Jaipur, Banaras and Lucknow. the dance tells us the epics and ancient mythology through dance, songs and music . this dance was usually danced in the theatres and the courts of kings in ancient times. it is a beautiful dance in which the dancer expresses the story through a wide variety of facial expressions . the dance is danced and practised in Northern parts of India
