A patrolman was on his regular duty, when he spots a stranger. He tells the policeman that he is waiting for a friend to keep his part of the strange pact they made twenty years ago. His friend Jimmy Wells never wanted to leave New York, and so the stranger alone went to the west to chalk out a future for himself. But before parting the two decided to meet at the same spot and at the same time twenty years hence. The man then lights up a cigar and continues waiting for his friend while the cop wishes him luck and carries on with his patrolling. Soon another man arrives and addresses the stranger as Bob. Bob is more than thrilled to see his friend Jimmy. They begin walking. Suddenly, as some light falls on the man's face, Bob realises that the man is not his friend Jimmy. The man then arrests Bob and hands him a letter from Patrolman Wells. Jimmy Wells had now become a police man. He had indeed shown up to meet his old friend but he realised that Bob was a wanted criminal in Chicago. Jimmy could not arrest his old friend and so went away. Instead he sent another policeman, dressed in plain clothes, to arrest Bob. Bob was moved by is his friend's sincerity towards Bob as well as his duty as a policeman.
