Root pressure is the pressure developed by the roots which builds up sufficient force to push the sap know the xylem vessels up to a certain height and may be enough for herbaceous plants. The root pressure is caused by roots during the absorption of water and minerals by roots by means of root hair. A root hair contains cell sap which has a higher concentration of salt as compared to the outside soil.

The root pressure is the reverse osmotic pressure within the cells of the root, and this root pressure is responsible for the sap to rise up trough the xylem vessels of the plant.

more information regarding root pressure :

Guttation – I'm certainly plants, like tomatoes grass, banana or ferns, the root pressure is high enough to force the water all way through the stem and comes through the end of leaf veins. This water appears as tiny drops along the margin or the tips of the leaves, especially in the early mornings. This loss of water is called guttation.

Transpiration pull – As the water is lost from the leaf surface by transpiration, more water molecules are pulled up dye to the tendency of water molecules to remain joined and thus, to produce a continuous column of water through the stem.
