Arabs had borrowed Indian knowhow of science and technology which was later taken by the western world from these Arabs. Aryabhatta the great astronomer and mathematician elucidated the happening of lunar/solar scientifically. Aryabhatta was the 1st to assert that the Earth’s shape was spherical and that the Earth rotates on its own axis.
• The most important accomplishment in the arithmetic field was the discovery of the decimal notation system. It was centred on the first nine numbers ' use of zero and the place value theory. Geometry has reached high levels and many circles and triangles theorems are stated. The the Sushruta Samhita and Charaka Samhita by Susruta and Charaka were the most significant works of medicine. The govt. and the citizens were responsible for building and maintenance of hospitals where both men and animals were cared for. The method of distillation or usage of disinfectants was discovered by Nagarjuna. Indians were also familiar with vaccination of small pox. Indian medicine tackles the entire scientific field. The Vridha Garga Samhita is a compilation of ancient Indian science and learning. It is the only study on astrology before Varahamihira's Brihat Samhita.
• Varahamihira also wrote 4 more works on astrology, in addition to sections on astrology in Brihat Samhita, which cover, favourable records on kings ' expeditions, time of birth of a person, auspicious muhurtas for marriage and its effect upon his future. As a great physician, Nagarjuna has been mentioned as a famous chemist during the Gupta period. A silent witness to the striking metallurgical abilities of the Hindus is the prominent Iron Pillar close to the Qutub-Minar. Despite the exposure to rain and sun for the last 1500 years, this pillar has not been corroded or rusted. The medical application of mercury and iron demonstrates that chemistry must be studied.
