Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

The number of apples he had purchased is 400.

Let us consider that Devender bought  'x' number of apples and bananas.  [As the no. of apples and bananas he bought are same.]

Given,

Cost Price of 1 apple = Rs 5

∴ Cost price of total x no. of apples = Rs 5x.

Also, given that.

Cost Price of 1 banana = Rs 2

∴ Cost price of total x no. of bananas = Rs 2x.

So, total cost price = Rs 5x + Rs 2x = Rs 7x

Selling price of x no. of apples at 20% profit

= (100 + profit) % of CP

= (100 + 20)% of Rs 5x

= 120% of Rs 5x

= Rs 6x

Selling price of x no. of bananas at 5% loss

= (100 - loss) % of CP

= (100  5)% of Rs 2x

= 95% of Rs 2x

= Rs 1.9x

So, total SP = Rs 6x + Rs 1.9x = Rs 7.9x

Given, profit occurs.

So, profit value = Rs (7.9x - 7x) = Rs 0.9x

This profit value is equal to Rs 360                [From question]

⇒ 0.9x = Rs 360

⇒ x = 360/0.9

⇒ x = 400

So, the no. of apples he bought = x = 400.
