Germination- The growing of a plant from a seed or spore is called germination. Sprouting (growing of sprouts) is a part of germination.

Sprouting can be done separately at home and only requires- any Pan/Jar (must have enough space so that the seeds are not cramped) ,water ,cloth/ mesh lid.

1) We will take the green gram and rinse them to remove any debris and broken seeds.

2) Place the rinsed seeds in a jar and fill it with 2-3 times the amount of water.

Then cover the jar with a cloth or a meshed lid or anything that allow proper airflow and soak them overnight in a dark place.

Generally the soaking time is 6-8 hrs . If the temperature is warm the soaking time is shorter ,if it is cool ,soaking time is longer.

3)Drain the seeds properly,Put them back in the jar and make sure to place the jar in a warm and dark place.

4)The sprouts will develope in 1-2 days . Make sure to rinse and drain twice- thrice in between.

Further germination will require a proper planting area or large containers , Fertile and nitrogen rich soil etc Optimum temperature and sunlight is also necessary for proper growth.
