1.

a. This experiment demonstrates the phenomenon of transpiration. The loss of water in the form of vapour from the surface of the leaves is called transpiration. The vapours get condensed inside the polythene bag as droplets.

b. The bag was covered with transparent polythene bag , so that the sunlight can reach the plant . The another reason for covering with polythene bag is to reveal the water loss by transpiration.

c. When the experimental set up is kept in a dark room, there is no sunlight and therefore no transpiration takes place. So no water droplets inside the polythene bag will be observed.

2. There is a decrease in level of water in test tube A , because the plant in that test tube absorbs water for its development. The absorption of water is done by using root hairs.

3.

a. The phenomenon occuring in the beaker is diffusion. Diffusion is the movement of molecules from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration. It is a passive process and requires no energy.

b. Larger molecules form the solvent and smaller molecules form the solute. In this experimental setup, water is the solvent and dye is the solute.

Usually solvent is present in greater amount than solute.

c. The bigger molecules in A represent solvent, water . When it is enclosed in a permeable membrane, it creates a pressure potential which results in movement of solvent molecules. Consider, in beaker A solute is present on the left and solvent on right seperated by a membrane. Here osmosis occurs which cause the movement of water molecules from right to left.
