Solution : mechanical advantage is the ratio of force produced by a machine to the force applied on it. In short, it is the ratio of output force to input force.
For pulley system, mechanical advantage is given by, MA = velocity ratio × efficiency
Here velocity ratio = 4 and efficiency = 90% = 90/100 = 0.9
so, the mechanical advantage = 4 × 0.9 = 3.6
Therefore the mechanical advantage of pulley system is 3.6
