Placenta :

It is a special umbilical cord which establishes connection between foetal membrane and uterine wall.

Importance of placenta:

1.Placenta serves as nutritive respiratory and excretory organ of the foetus.

2. The exchange of materials between the mother's blood and the blood of the foetus takes place here.

3. Foetus gets nutrients ,water, oxygen, minerals , vitamin etc. from the maternal blood and gives off wastes like CO2, urea etc.

Factors affecting placenta

1. Maternal age.

2. High blood pressure.
