  • Lungs have a greater surface for exchange of gases because the total surface area of alveoli is 80 m² which is greater than the total surface area of entire body.

  • In animals where the body size is large, respiratory pigments like haemoglobin take up oxygen from lungs and carry it to places that are deficient of oxygen.
