Diagrammatic questions:
1 The diagram shows a lever of uniform
unported at the middle point. Six coins of equal
mass are placed at mark 4 on the left hand side
a Can you balance the lever with 12 more coins
of equal mass? If yes, where would you place them? If not, why?

Let the mass of each coin is 'm'.

Then the weight of each coin =mg=mg.

The distance of 5 coins on right sides is x, from the mid-point.

Let hand side moment by 4 coins at mark 4 is.

LHM=4 mg\times 4.....(1)LHM=4mg×4.....(1)

Right hand side moment by 5 coins at mark x is,

RHM=x\times 5 mgRHM=x×5mg

According to the law of moments,

LHM=RHM.LHM=RHM.

4 mg\times 4=x\times 5 mg4mg×4=x×5mg

\Rightarrow x=\dfrac {16}{5}=3.2⇒x=
