dialogue between two friends about how to celebrate eco friendly diwali
Answers
Friend A: I think the time has come now when we must change the way we celebrate our festivals.
Friend B: Yes, I also feel the same. The population, urbanization, industrialization problems in our country have caused unprecedented pollution.
Friend A: True. If we kept on following traditional life style, we will be in big trouble. There won’t be any oxygen left to breathe.
Friend B: For example at Diwali we let off crackers. In the name of celebrating Diwali, people release tons of toxic pollution into the environment. We must celebrate Diwali differently. Our cities have already become polluted to the maximum. We can’t afford to pollute them anymore! We must sacrifice bursting crackers. Crackers have only adverse effects; there is no single good thing associated with them! When we burn crackers, we actually burn our hard-earned money, purity of environment, jeopardize the health of children and elders.
Friend A: There is no doubt in that. I think people must realize the gravity of situation and become wiser. They should celebrate festivals but not cause pollution.
Friend 1: Hi! When did you get home yesterday? The traffic was heavy.
Friend 2: Hi! Yeah! I got home very late. It usually takes 30 minutes but yesterday it took me almost an hour. There were celebrations for diwali.
Friend 1: Yes. The roads were filled with smoke. The people were bursting crackers. It was suffocating.
Friend 2: Not only that! But also the burning of effigies. The people are still not aware of the alarming rate with which we are polluting the environment,
Friend 1: Yes! Our environment is polluted. There is no clean air that we can breathe nor clean water to drink.
Friend 2: The emissions from burning effigies and crackers contain harmful gases. They are harmful for the environment and human beings as well. The people should be educated about this.
Friend 1: This is not a good sight. This will result in many health problems. The people should be aware.
Friend 2: The government should take actions in order to reduce the pollution. They should create awareness to the people about the current pollution rate and the consequences of burning effigies and crackers.
Friend 1: I hope our city gets better. Let's just not do anything harmful for the environment.
Friend 2: Yeah! We should be the initiative. An Eco friendly diwali.
