I am 20 and this is what i feel about generation gap (through my personal experiences
I was one of those who used to think that Generation Gap was mostly about
● Differences in pace of understanding technology,
● Differences in how to approach work,
● Differences in how to invest money,
And many things on the similar lines.
However, a recent incident in my life changed the way I look at generation gap.
Three days back, I was having food cravings at 8 o'clock in the evening. I hadn't had a good plate of junk food in months. So, I thought of ordering a Pizza.
Luckily, there was an ongoing offer of ₹ 50 off, while ordering online, from a nearby place. So, I placed the order for a Large Chicken Pepperoni pizza with extra cheese.
The time of placing the order was 08:12 pm and the delivery was supposed to happen by 08:42 pm or earlier.
However, the delivery guy never reached me on time. I rang up the place and then their customer care separately but the girl on the line talked to me rudely, both times and told me that they can't help it and it's none of their concern. I was appalled at their ill mannered response.
Dejected at their behavior and hungrier by now, I was lost into my angry thoughts, and then my phone rang. It was the pizza delivery guy who had called approximately one hour after the order. I hurriedly took the pizza, closed the main door and the hunger in me gobbled it up as fast as it could.
Now was the time for my review ( since it was an online order). Disgusted at their service and impolite behavior, I wrote one of the nastiest reviews, they would have ever received, on their website.
Cut to next morning, my phone showed 4 missed calls from an unknown number. On searching the number online, I found out that it was the phone number of the owner of the place from where I had ordered My Pizza. He called me once again in the afternoon. His tone was that of remorse and he was apologising for the misdeeds of his employee (the girl on customer care), telling me that he had received many such complaints regarding her. He wanted me to remove the Review from the website as it would have gravely affected his bussiness. I didn’t oblige as I was still angry from the last night's experience.
He called me again in the evening and was now offering me two whole Large pizzas, if I would remove my review. Maybe the Greed in me made me do it, but this time I agreed and removed the review.
Later in the evening, when my Parents came to see me, I narrated the whole experience to them, telling them about the power of customer reviews. Instead of feeling elated, I saw a sense of Sadness and Worry growing on their faces. They were feeling bad for the owner of the restaurant who would have to send two free Pizzas from his own hard earned money, just because of misbehaviour of one of his employees and a hard to please customer(me).
At that time, I realized the Generation Gap between me and my parents is much more than some Cliched examples. I am not even half as empathetic as them; and the same technology and powerful review buttons, (which I was so proud of moments ago) is actually responsible for my black of it.
The Generation Gap may seem to put the younger generation in a better position than the older ones. But it only seems to do so.
In reality, the loss of human values and touch, loss of faith, poor expression of feelings, poor interpersonal communication skills and many such things have actually made this Generation Gap severely detrimental for youth.
Eventually, after seeing their worrisome faces and understanding the rationale behind them, I, hesitantly, rang up the restaurant owner and politely told him to cancel my FREE PIZZAS, forever…….

A youngster asked his grandfather…
“Grandpa! How did you people live before with
No technology
No aeroplanes
No internet
No Computer
No Dramas
No TV
No aircons
No cars
No Mobile phones.
Dada replied
Just like how you people living today…
No Prayer
No compassion
No honour
No respect
No character
No shame
No modesty”
We, the people born between 1950-1989 are the blessed ones…
Our life is a living proof.
While playing and riding bicycle, we never bothered to wear helmets.
After school time we played until its dusk but never watched (TV) by locking up ourselves in a room.
We played only with our real friends, not with NET friends.
If we ever felt thirsty, we used to drink tap water but never searched for bottled water.
We never got ill even after sharing the same juice with four friends.
We were never put on weight even after eating plate full of rice everyday.
Nothing happened to our feet even after roaming bare foot.
We never used any health supplements to keep ourselves healthy.
We used to create our own toys and play with them.
Our parents were not rich. They just searched for and gave only love.. not any worldly material.
We never had cellphones, DVDs, Play stations, XBoxes, video games, Personal computers, internet, chat but we had many real friends.
We used to visit our friend’s home uncalled and enjoyed food with them. We never had to call them and ask their permission to visit their home.
Relatives were near to us so our hearts and souls were happy.
We may have been in Black and White photos but you can find good colourful memories in those photos……..
We are a unique and the most understanding generation, because we are the last generation who listened to their parents….
and also the first which have to listen to their children.
